When we began the VIP Discount Card and eliminated a "membership fee", we knew the true "value" of the Senior Center. We joked that it was the "best kept secret" in the community. We reached out to retailers and restaurants to help us promote the Center and get the word out about our programs and activities. Prior to March 13, the Phoenixville Area Senior Center was a quaint building where Seniors went to exercise, play cards, have lunch, and hang out where someone could keep an eye on them.
Then came Covid-19. Seniors across the country were found to be the most vulnerable from this disease. Instead of closing our doors, the employees jumped into action. Over the weekend our quaint building became a center for the health and well-being of all Senior in the Phoenixville area. We provided well checks to hundreds, produced exercise classes for public access television, created Zoom meetings where our participants could safely meet, and started our food drive-thru to keep Seniors out of the grocery stores, safe from this deadly disease.
Many of the Seniors who participate in our programs can't afford the $30 to be a supporter, but if you can, please support the Senior Center by purchasing a supporter card. We will re-evaluate the value added discounts as soon as our local businesses have time to recover.
